Four Effective Keyword Research Tips to Try

Keyword research is one of the most important parts of SEO. When you’re searching for keywords to target, it’s important to find out what people are actually typing into Google. You’ll need this information in order to optimize your content and rank higher on search engine results pages (SERPs). While keyword research can be difficult, there are some effective research tips that make finding good keywords much easier.

1. Consider Your Target Audience

When considering keywords, think about the audience you’re targeting. This is one of the most effective keyword research tips to utilize.

For example, if your company sells ice cream to children under 12 years old in 2021, words like “ice cream” and “toys” will probably be relevant for your content. You can bet that parents with young children are searching these terms on Google regularly.

It’s important to consider keywords related to what people want, as well as how old the searcher is. This is especially true since many of the most popular websites target a very specific age group within their demographic space (e.g., YouTube focuses on teenagers).

2. Factor in Search Intent

When researching keywords, take into consideration what the user is trying to accomplish with their search.

For example, if your target audience is looking for ice cream recipes, then “ice cream” would be an effective keyword (even though it might not bring up results related to purchasing ice cream online).

Keep in mind that there are many different kinds of searches people can perform when they’re using Google’s search engine (e.g., informational queries vs transactional queries).

Also, keep in mind that these types of searches may vary by country or region since localized rankings will serve you better than generic ones.

For example, someone searching for “toy stores near me” probably wants a store close enough for them to visit easily.

3. Avoid Highly Competitive Keywords

When you’re targeting keywords, avoid the most competitive ones.  While there is a chance that your content will rank for these terms, it’s more likely to be buried deep down on page two of Google results – if at all.

After all, many websites are already struggling just to rank for basic keyword phrases.

It’s even harder to compete with huge brands and other powerhouses who have an enormous amount of online authority since they’ve been around longer than you have.

So, don’t try to fight them when you can rank higher by focusing on less “competitive” search queries instead.

4. Check Online Forums for Effective Keyword Research Ideas

There are many forums out there where people post questions to get help or advice from other web users.  These forums can be extremely valuable sources for finding keywords related to your industry (e.g., Reddit).

You’ll want to make sure that you check several different subreddits. Be sure to check those within your specific niche, since they tend to attract more targeted traffic than general ones do.

For example, if you’re in trying to find ice cream parlors near me after I mention the ice cream store I visited last week on my Facebook page, then searching “Reddit ice cream” would probably turn up some good results.
